So, today’s topic is very intense and important. As many of us teenagers go through lack of self-esteem. I’m sure adult go through this too! If you are someone who lacks self-esteem than definitely continue reading.

What is self-esteem?

Self-esteem is nothing but the meaning of self-worth or self-love.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. It is very important that we embrace our strengths which make us have true confidence. That’s good but we ought to accept our weaknesses too and focus on the cause of those weakness that are affecting our self-worth the most.

These are a few ways or tips to boost your confidence and in turn build your self-esteem.

Take the path less taken and make your mark

Surround yourself with the right crowd

You should always surround yourself with teenagers or adults who are like-minded and who have the same interests as you do (mostly who you can relate to). Choosing the right tribe is the main and important part to boost your confidence while being around people. The friends you choose or the people you desire to be with should think that you are awesome the way you are (which you are, btw!). They should choose to want to be with you. This is a place you can be yourself in every way possible.

Surround yourself with uplifting, positive people who laugh with you and not at you, talk to you and not behind you, and who build you up not tear you down. If you haven’t found your tribe, keep looking.

Stay away from comparisons

Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone is made differently for a reason. Everyone isn’t the same. We have different opinions, ideas, talents, etc.

You must focus on your abilities, your qualities and your strengths. Stay away from the evils of comparison that will only tear you down. Believe in yourself and you will do it. Never give up. Stay strong.

Your mind will always be flooded with thoughts. You might not be the one good in sports or the one good in studies. But we all have something special in us. Just dig down deep into your inner self and you’ll find it. You will definitely shine.

Never give up instead hope and have faith

If you are upset or down, stay calm and write it down on paper. Life will always throw stones at you. But you should never give up. There is still that last hope left. You can make changes in your life but not everything will change. The past is your history. What you can change is how you perceive the present and the future. Always take your past as a warning or lesson, something that you shouldn’t repeat.

This is the time you as a teenager will question yourself as to who you really are and what is the purpose of your existence. Bad days are a common part of life for all humans, that doesn’t mean your life sucks. Always remember that not everything will work the way you want it to. You should always hope that the situation or circumstance you are in, will bring to you something much better that might even change your life completely.

You are precious

I am a treasure, a precious unique treasure. If I want others to value me, I must first value myself.

Question yourself: ‘What is your self-image?’

Self- image is the picture we carry of ourselves. The picture we have of ourselves can be beautiful, distorted or ugly. If the picture is beautiful; we will respect, accept and have self-esteem, and also demand the same from others. But on the other hand, if the picture is ugly; we will not value ourselves and certainly others will do the same to us too.

We are all precious, unique and rare. No one is like us and never will be. We are special in our own way. Our society is filled with people of different religions, race, nationalities, etc. But we are all one in the eyes of our creator. Never give up on yourself. You are special.

“Accept everything about yourself, I mean everything. You are you and that is the beginning and end, no apologies, no regrets.”

Clark Moustakas

 Reward yourself

Keep daily goals for yourself and each time you accomplish something, reward yourself. We are all humans. We sometimes win, and sometimes lose. But we have to keep moving on with life. By doing this, we can omit our bad habits and behaviours too.

Besides that we it is human tendency to like being reward or acknowledged. It builds our self-esteem and makes us feel good about ourselves.

Life is short, but we are all here for a reason.

Recognise and appreciate your values

Believe that you are already totally awesome and cool the way you are. Just learn to accept yourself for who you are. Every perfect or imperfect flaw is what makes you special, valuable and unique. Stand up for the right. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and opinions.

There will always be people who will be against your opinions but neither one is wrong. Problems can be solved if we are willing to. All we need to do is give it time and have patience. We have to be calm and understanding towards all our problems if we want to find the right solutions.

I now have a question for all of you guys to answer…

“What according to you is a pleasant personality?”
