Being on a lockdown currently in some countries like the UK we’ve got so much more time to kill. So often than not, all of us are tempted to pull a Netflix all-nighter. But today I’ll tell you why it is better to sleep than doing that.
FUN FACT: HUMAN BEINGS SPEND ALMOST ONE THIRD OF THEIR LIVES SLEEPING.

Our muscles and body uses a lot of energy during the day, so sleeping well at night mainly helps in replenishing and balancing the energy wasted. Sleep is the most natural and instinctive remedy to heal the body, mind and soul.
There are days when I feel low or unmotivated. A good nap really helps me freshen up and take over the world feeling all the more energised. When we are asleep, our body works to regenerate our tissues, organs and cells.
As babies we would need at least 16-20hrs of sleep per day but as we grow older that time reduces. Sometimes we are so caught up with hustling life and everything that comes with it that we forget the importance of self-care and self-love. Our sleep reduces to 6-8 hrs per day or sometimes even lesser for some.
Sleeping for less than 4 hrs and more than 8hrs reduces longevity. Shocked by that? It is a well researched fact. So ideally you are meant to have a good nights sound sleep for at least 6-8hrs.

Never ever underestimate the important of a good nights sleep. Sleeping well is also a great form of detox, as a good sleep will help restore and repair all the damage made by toxins.
REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD SLEEP INSTEAD OF NETFLIX ALL-NIGHT
Sleeping well supports our immune system. It isn’t an unknown fact that with Covid, it has become even more important to make sure we build a healthy immune system for ourselves.

Studies have shown that if you sleep and rest for less than 6hrs, you are more prone to catching a cold or flu than if you slumber for longer.

Research has also linked obesity with fewer than six hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep reduces the levels of leptin, a chemical that helps signal you when you’ve got a full tummy. Besides that from personal experience, if I don’t sleep well or rest enough then I automatically crave for all the possible junk under the sun. A good idea to avoid this is making some healthy cookies like the vegan banana bread cookies and maybe even some homemade healthy low sugar peanut butter cookies. Keep a batch of these handy for whenever you’re feeling peckish.

Low quality sleep also can affect your sex life and that is a big no no for some of us for sure. You would have a lower libido if you don’t sleep well. A good nights sound sleep can help boost your sex life.
Sleeping well at night definitely supports a stronger heart. While poor quality of sleep increases the risk of a heart attack, elevates blood pressure and also makes your body prone to heart failure and stoke.

So make sure that starting from today you have a great quality sleep. Try this effective night time self-care routine to aid that. Getting into the habit of doing that or maybe even set that as a goal for 2021. It is never too late.
